I'm curious how well an ultrasonic cleaner would be at removing the excess powder. If it can it could eliminate an additional dust producing step.
Their design team is trying to make their product look like HAL 9000
I have a pair of addidas 4ds worked in a warehouse walked in them regularly and haven't had any falling apart issues and you didn't mention how insanely comfortable they are.
This is great but can we actually see some of these processes? This feels more like a company sales pitch than a tech demo. I want to see the urethane process in detail
What fillament was used for this?????
Insanity squared. I would never go anywhere near SLS powders in my house.
nonono, you did it wrong. U opened flap 4 before the flap 3, you mixed up the flaps

The Shift container needs to be have extra ridge lines on all of the open spots blank on all six sides so that it's transport ready and has high impact resistance which will also increase it's overall durability so that when being used and moved around by the end user the box doesn't end up cracking with just one fall especially when it has powder material in it since the current version will certainly crack when dropped more than one or two times. They can also increase the powder shifters wall thickness to handle impacts better but that can increase the shifter boxes weight quite a bit compared to adding ridges on its large blank sides for better impact resistance during shipping and general use. The current Powder shifters shape(tower box type) and size is fine but the overall Design needs some very necessary changes. Also the extra weight will be worth it in the next design iteration since the piece of mind of having the product shipped to the customers without damage which then requires a new box to be sent as replacement along with the fact that customers will have to worry less about damaging the powder shifter while moving it around and have less material loss(since the printer material is a fine dust to work with) and downtime.
Nope, nope, nope! Far too messy and dangerous. And the end product doesn’t look that good either.
WHAT?!?? Sweeet🙌🏻👍🏼
I just watched their video called "Replacing of nozzle". Disastrous. I do hope nozzle can be changed in a minute really.
Love seeing the internals of these kinds of machines. Would love to hear a little more technical details, but fun none the less.
Hello, I have a question, about how much does a 3D printer cost and where can I purchase one?
Many bad experiences with Kickstarter. It is an awful platform.
For what it is, $50000 + freight and tax ain’t honestly half bad. The product of this printer is absolutely insane and my god the potential for costume and set design is amazing
It’s cool but I’d want a traditional cast. I’ve broken both my arms (seperate times, not both at once) and I like the feeling of my arm being safe. When I got my cast off I felt so vulnerable and I felt like I had to protect my arm or it would just snap lol. I know that wouldn’t happen obviously but I like the feeling of my arm being completely protected and the holes in the 3d printed one would freak me out.
WOW
When I was a kid, I tried several times to get Lamborghini to fax me a Countach.
I suddenly just pictured you drinking a bottle of fire sauce... (2$ US at my local stores.)
at 10:39 How much fun is it to hear more people using Taylor Swift together within 3D Printing... especially the Shaking part...
Can somebody tell me how to 3d print dummy 13 or mini 13 action figure
guh
A little too much nozzle info
Having done a fair amount of research into dust collection, I feel it is extremely irresponsible to tell people this is something they should put in their home.
The price of filament, time spent and all other parts must costed more than the original, but remarkable project anyway :D
Yep - definitely an exciting development! I would maybe put this more in a "prosumer" sector, but nonetheless, this is something I see as opening a new world of prototyping in a small, home-business setting. Much as with early resin, I would definitely shy away as a general consumer, given all the extra stuff one would need. But you're right - this opens a door and we could very well see others on the market soon and those could offer a more refined experience. Congrats to Micronics!
You need a special fire rated vacuum for that dust. Every other generic vacuum is a potential fire hazard ingesting that powder
There's no way that filter is catching all of the particles lol
FYI using a dust mask like that does not protect you especially if you have a beard. The sealing against your face is about the equivalent of holding a paper towel over your face. Invest in a good mask and strongly consider using a positive pressure HEPA rated respirator. You really don't want nylon particles ending up in your lungs
Please get at least a half face respirator with filter cartridges or even better a supplied air filtration hood.
Seeing what Micronics told Strange Parts it's not worth risk for now.
I honestly think Micronics is right about this being kinda safe. If anyone has refilled toner for laser printers, you'll do just fine with this. Toner particles are even smaller than the nylon particles used for this believe it or not. And an N95 mask is definitely ok at filtering, the problem is of course whether or not people know how to properly don one lol. I would do this outside however, not in my room like this.
for articulated parts like the manta ray try an ultrasonic cleaner.
I see you have all the filaments back there, exposed, you dont have problems with humidity?
No I don’t.
this is the coolest printing I've ever seen in my life. especially the frog at 17:00 i cannot wait to have a printer that can do transparent and opaque at the same time. i want that skull really bad too. this is all just too cool.
THIS PROPAGANDA SHANT BE ACCEPTED BY THE MASSES CHUBBY CUNT
all shits and giggles
This is build like a hobby machine compared to an EOS 😂
Still going to be out of my reach here in South Africa as it still going to be more than a 30K+ out of budget printer lol...(mind you my monthly salary is around $500US)
the machine has to include post processing. it already has a glass lid, why don't they have an air flush and recovery process - this is the core requirement of an SLS printer - print, have the sealed machine recycle the powder down ready to be relaid.
Also it is reusable
This is a really cool technology. Also special thanks to you and the commenters for mentioning that working with these requires respiratory protection to prevent inadvertently breathing in the dusts. I am not sure that I like the way they do the "fan" thing tho. I think it might be better if they included a "plastic tent vent hood" for you to place the cake in ... and have the fan attached to it so that it always pulls air out of the tent, and prevents you from accidentally getting particles in your "environment" (Which clearly happens as you shake the container). If they include a mobile vent hood, it would not add too much to the cost, since it would essentially be low cost probably clear plastic and maybe some structural pieces and it would likely improve the safety, as long as it was properly filtered and vented.
Cool Video, Thanks for making it!
im wondering what they think of the new competition that is coming up in the lower ends of the market with Micronics for SLS(plastics) and Metal-Base for SLM (metal)
Micronics is not safe as a home printer which they are trying to market their product as. The printers may be cheap but to use them safely you will need to invest in a lot of other equipment. The SLS powder is very bad to breathe so just wearing a N95 mask is nowhere near enough protection. You need respirators, a dedicated ventilated and sealed off room, proper cleanup procedures, etc. People using it professionally even have to use all anti static equipment like vacuums because there is a chance that powder in the air could explode if there is a spark. Notice here how they didn’t let Joel anywhere near powder or unfinished parts and it looks like the machines have been properly cleaned to show him. The basic mask and gloves is not enough to protect you from direct exposure but there are other issues with it being a very fine powder, even without spilling it when you remove the print from the machine you kick a lot of that powder into the air where it will remain for a long time and will settle on surfaces where it can be kicked up later, most likely when you aren’t even wearing a mask. This is made worse by the sifting method of the micronics machine, put it in a box and shake it up. SLS is just not safe for home or hobbyist use at this stage, that should be clear to see when looking at what protective measures companies have in place for using the machines. Looking at micronics about page they clearly don’t put much thought into safety, they show off how they used to be based out of a college apartment before they moved into their lab and their pictures show what looks like a milling machine covered in metal chips literally less than a metre from a bed. Now they are marketing an SLS printer for home use? I would not trust their safety claims or advice.
I think that from that perspective no 3d printer, fdm, sla or sls should never be used at home. The same can be said about drill presses, milling machines and saw machines. In the end it is also determined by the ammount of exposure
This really feels like something that doesn't need to be consumer-level. Like, the tech is cool, but John Q Somebody's garage doesn't meet OSHA standards.
I need to know their secretes!!!!
i wanted to do this few years ago with my g35 using a 3-d print shop in Irvine, CA but they wanted way too much. i just bought a 2020 civic coupe and it's body is amazing to make it look what I want. hopefully, it's a lot cheaper now but i can't believe more people don't want a car that looks 'super' cool. this will easily catch on in a few more years and you guys are just ahead of the time!!
Nice video… maybe a followup video on how easy (or not) the slicer is to use.
i want one of these but there is no way i could ever afford one
My cat approves the K1
